We keep hearing details about a ‘railway station master plan’ and were finally invited to a meeting at the town hall. The plan appears to be something of a secret but we were able to make suggestions about cycle and pedestrian routes.

A plan to reinstate road access from Hollis Lane to the station car park has now been approved (Phase 1 of the Hollis Lane link). In a subsequent phase the road will be extended to form a through route joining up to Malkin St.

There are also illustrations of what the revamped station approach might look like. This is clearly going to have an impact on the station link cycle route and we are working hard to have an input in the final designs.

A new ‘fly through’ video of the whole station area and Waterside has been produced by Whittam Cox Architects with cycle infrastructure apparently sadly lacking! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FgCbR6EYLU

There will be a public consultation later in 2020.

UPDATE May 2020 – we are in discussion with the Borough Council ‘forward planning’ team to hopefully incorporate cycle infrastructure into the master plan. Positive messages have been received from Chesterfield councillors and a video call scheduled with AECOM (highway engineers).
