Chesterfield Cycle Campaign promotes cycle use in Chesterfield for both leisure and utility journeys.  By campaigning for a comprehensive network, we aim to improve conditions for cyclists so that cycling becomes a safer and more attractive option than car travel for local journeys.

Station Link Opening

The Campaign had two very successful morning stalls at the railway station on Wednesday and Thursday. Much interest and lots of maps and information given out. We had to arrange an overnight reprint of our flyer with the route graphic.

The official opening was also a great success despite the damp conditions. Over 50 children and adults cycled in from four schools, users of the Wheels for All disability trikes, lots of Campaign members  and Sustrans, DCC officers and representatives from East Midland Trains watched Cllr John Owen cut the ribbon.

Our September meeting is on Tuesday 13th. We will be discussing the station link opening events and the EMCF meeting being held in Chesterfield on October 15th. Hope to see you there!

Bridge in daylight

Hollis Lane Bridge

The two spans of the new Hollis Lane bridge on the station link route were lifted into place last night. The parapets either side will arrive in a couple of weeks or so which will complete the structure.

New Bridge Hollis Lane Station Link

Just had the following message from Derbyshire County Council;

The bridge over Hollis Lane is in two halves and was going to be lifted in over two weekends, however I have just been informed that they are both going to be lifted into place this Saturday 25th June. Hollis Lane will be closed from 9pm and rail possession is from 1am Sunday morning if anyone fancies being a night owl. The majority of work is complete and the contractor is just waiting for delivery of the parapet railings.

Fantastic news!
