Chesterfield Cycle Campaign promotes cycle use in Chesterfield for both leisure and utility journeys.  By campaigning for a comprehensive network, we aim to improve conditions for cyclists so that cycling becomes a safer and more attractive option than car travel for local journeys.

'Cycle in Style' 2014

The 2014 Cycle in Style ride will take place on Saturday 11th October. Leaving from the Vintage Tea Rooms on Beetwell Street at 11.00am there will be a leisurely ride to Somersall Park and back to the finish at Nonna's on Chatsworth Road.

Riders will be gathering from around 10.00am at the tea rooms. All welcome but especially well dressed riders and classic bikes!

Planning Applications

The planning application for the link to the railway station has been published. We urge all cyclists to write a letter or email in support of this excellent project. The application ref no is CHE/14/00588/CPO.

On Tuesday the planning application for the new leisure centre to be built in the Queen's Park Annexe was approved. Whilst there is reasonable cycle provision within the site we are working hard to connect the site to the wider cycle network.

There is currently a set of proposals to reroute some bridleways and footpaths on the site of the proposed 'Peak Resort'. We are in general agreement but have asked for the footpath running parrallel with the A61 to be upgraded to a bridleway.

You may be interested in a consultation being undertaken on the 60 mile cycle loop in the Peak District especially the Bakewell to Matlock section. Details available here:

Responses to Planning Applications

The Campaign has recently commented on two planning applications:

New leisure centre proposed in the Queen's Park Annexe - There is adequate cycle storage shown on the plans but unfortunately no specific cycle access. Cyclists will have to use Boythorpe Road and the proposed vehicle access. We believe a traffic free access solution should be sought which would link to the Hipper Valley Trail.

Proposed housing development at Wheeldon Mill - A proposal to build 150 houses next to the canal between Sainsburys and Station Road in Brimington has no cycle provision shown and states that cyclists can use the A619!

The Campaign doesn't believe either of these developments takes into account a sustainable transport solution.
