Chesterfield Cycle Campaign promotes cycle use in Chesterfield for both leisure and utility journeys.  By campaigning for a comprehensive network, we aim to improve conditions for cyclists so that cycling becomes a safer and more attractive option than car travel for local journeys.

May Day

The Campaign will have its usual stall at the May Day gala on Monday May 5th. This year the event returns to New Square and our stall fronts onto Low Pavement opposite the fish and chip shop.

Some members of the campaign take part in the march which leaves the town hall at 11.00am. We are usually at the back cycling very slowly!

Do come along and say hello, talk to members of the committee - we want to hear your views on the developing Chesterfield cycle network.

Press report of 'silliest cycle lane'

An item recently appeared on Yahoo news entitled 'Is this Britain's silliest cycle lane', the article has subsequently been circulated on Twitter, Facebook and email.

The article was misleading and not showing the full extent of the 'cycle lane' (actually a segregated path). The Cycle Campaign was not contacted before publication. The article originated from 'Ross Parry News' in Leeds.

The Campaign praises the work of Derbyshire County Council in providing new and improved cycle routes in Chesterfield and hopes articles like this do not harm the progress of the Chesterfield Cycle Network.

Confronted by the Easter bunny at Hollingwood hub!

West Bars

Work has started on the car parking area outside the Portland Hotel. The cycle lane that runs along the footway from the toucan crossing to the car park has been removed and the surfacing changed to black tarmac.

The cycle lane will be reinstated nearer the footway edge to avoid confliction with pedestrians and cycle parking stands. A new dropped kerb has been installed already to facilitate getting into the car parking area. The number of cars allowed to park there should be reduced which will hopefully make it easier to cycle through.

Campaign meeting

Our April meeting will be on Tuesday April 8th at 7.30pm, meeting room 2 upstairs in the Market Hall. use the entrance opposite the (now closed) main post office.
