Chesterfield Cycle Campaign promotes cycle use in Chesterfield for both leisure and utility journeys.  By campaigning for a comprehensive network, we aim to improve conditions for cyclists so that cycling becomes a safer and more attractive option than car travel for local journeys.

Route to Queen's Park Sports Centre

The problems with the gate allowing access to the new cycle route through the Queen's Park seem to have been resolved, it is now open on a daily basis.

However we now have problems with sports centre users parking on the shared path giving access to the cycle parking. We met with the sports centre manager today who has a plan for bollards to keep the route clear.

Campaign Meeting

Our next meeting is on 9th April at 7.30pm in the Chesterfield Community Centre, all welcome. We will be discussing several planning applications that are current.

Public Bike Pump

Our new public bike pump has been installed at the Hollingwood Hub on the Trans Pennine Trail.

After we delivered it the Canal Trust kindly installed it.

It is enclosed by the shutters when the cafe is closed to prevent vandalism.

Campaign Meeting

Our monthly meeting tonight (Tuesday 12th March) at 7.30pm in the Chesterfield Community Centre. We'll be discussing the lack of cycle infrastructure in the planning applications for Waterside amongst other issues. All welcome.

Public Bike Pump

The Campaign recently decided to install a public bike pump at the Hollingwood Hub on the Trans Pennine Trail/NCN 67.

It has now been delivered and will shortly be installed to the right hand side of the cafe.

Look out for more details of when it is in place!

Bike Thefts

A number of bicycles have been stolen from sheds in the Brampton area in the last few days. Details of one of them below, please keep a look out:

Big bike 62 cm frame - Cube ‘Nature’ Hybrid - light grey in colour with distinctive bright orange logo’s. It is fitted with a black Brooks B17 Leather Saddle. It also has black metal rear pannier/ luggage rack and matching Cube kick stand/ prop.

Waterside Housing Application

A planning application has been received by Chesterfield Borough Council for the residential part of the Waterside development called 'The Park'.

We had hoped for good cycling infrastructure to be included but sadly not.

A path is shown from the north east edge of the development to the access road but not continuing to the southern boundary. There is no easy access from the development to the Trans Pennine Trail to facilitate journeys to the railway station and town centre either.

Ashgate Road Coop

When the new Coop opened on Ashgate Road there were no cycle parking stands provided. In the planning application one document had them shown and another didn't!

Our Campaign tweeted about this and within a few minutes the Coop replied promising to rectify the situation. Following subsequent contact by email the stands have now been provided.

Our first meeting of 2019 will be on Tuesday 8th January. 7.30pm at Chesterfield Community Centre. All welcome. The agenda and minutes available via the menu on the left.

Christmas Social

Twelve riders turned up for our tour around Chesterfield looking at Christmas lights and several more came along to the Portland Hotel afterwards.
